Our last day in Germany began with pre-breakfast, because apparently an ordinary breakfast was not enough. Monja had baked scones, which we ate with strawberry jam and cream. For the main breakfast we made omelette wraps — something new that we could introduce to the Kraemers before leaving. Afterwards we got on the bicycles for [...]

We had a slow morning and packed for what was supposed to be a short hike through the Reichenbachklamm. We only reached the car park just after 13:00, which seemed perfectly reasonable for a short hike. Starting gently beside the water. We stopped for a picnic next to the river, then followed the gorge upwards. [...]

2026-08-02T23:54:24+02:00August 2nd, 2026|Categories: Europe, Germany, Trip Report|

On Saturday we went to hike the Breitachklamm. It rained while we were driving there, but the weather was perfect by the time we started walking. We parked at the top, just before the Austrian border, and walked down to the ticket booth. From there we turned around and hiked back up through the canyon. [...]

Days 1–4 — The 38½-hour journey to St Mang

2026-08-02T23:25:23+02:00August 2nd, 2026|Categories: Europe, Germany, Trip Report|

We left home at 09:00 on Tuesday morning and only got into bed in St Mang at 23:30 the following night: a total travel time of 38½ hours. Our eight-hour stopover in Dubai was from midnight until our flight at 08:12. We barely managed two hours of sleep on uncomfortable airport chairs and ate in [...]
