Day 23: Lekhubu Island to Gweta

Distance: 104km (Cumulative: 3 639km)
Moving time: 02:53
Average speed: 36km/h
Road surface: 100% Gravel/Sand/Dust

Accommodation: Camping
Gweta Lodge - R110 p.p

Bland campsite, but lodge has nice swimming pool

Just as we were the first to arrive at the island we were the last to leave as well.
We took the road to Gweta which is marked as ‘very bad road’ on Tracks4Africa. That felt like an understatement as it was also very dusty and very confusing. There’s 100s of split offs everywhere and the roads don’t always connect again and not all the roads are on T4A so every no and then we would just be in the white of the GPS not close to any marked road.

Halfway between Kubu and Gweta we stopped at another large Boabab for a group photo.
In Gweta we checked in at the Gweta Lodge hoping for decent internet to do some urgent work.
They claimed to have WiFi which we didn’t test for some reason. We had some more eggs for lunch and washed clothes. We then went for a swim in their big swimming pool. Only then we tried the WiFi to try and work, but we could barely send a WhatsApp and the mobile reception wasn’t much better. We thus had a few very frustrating hours of not really getting anything done.

For dinner we had tuna pasta before going to bed early.
