Matjiesfontein
We've driven past the Matjiesfontein turn-off numerous times, but on this occasion we decided it was time for a visit.
Istanbul Revisited
From Pamukkale, we went to Izmir from where we flew back to Istanbul. Hugo's parents went back to South Africa leaving the Two Monkeys behind in Istanbul. We booked an Airbnb room for 5 nights 'close' to Taksim Square for a relaxing 'local' experience. The neighbourhood looks a bit run down, but the apartment was [...]
Pamukkale & Hierapolis
From Ephesus, we went to another ancient city, Hierapolis, built on top of Pamukkale. Hierapolis felt like an even larger city with even more ruins, but we were almost the only ones exploring it. We didn't complain, however, as we got to take pictures without 100s of people in the way. Pamukkale (Turkish for Cotton [...]
Ephesus
It took five hours to get to Selcuk from Fethiye, so we arrived there in the afternoon. Our guesthouse, Villa Dreams, had a beautiful view over the city and a nice swimming pool. We just relaxed there for the rest of the day. The next day was dedicated to exploring the ancient ruins of Ephesus [...]
Mediterranean Coast
From Cappadocia we went with an overnight bus to Cirali. Cirali is famous for it's beautiful beach, being next to the ancient city of Olympos and for the Chimera eternal burning flames. We ended up staying for two nights. The first night we stayed on the beach until 22:00 and then had to walk 4kms [...]
Cappadocia
After our 3 day visit in Istanbul we flew to Kayeseri. From there a shuttle took as to the doorstep of our AirBnB cave room in Goreme, Cappadocia. The next morning at 4 am we took a balloon ride over the valley. The views from high above is simply indescribably. Later the day after a [...]

The River Siding
On 22-24 April 2016, we went on a family getaway to Ceres. We stayed on a farm in a cosy cottage on the bank of the Breede River. We arrived there in a torrential downpour of rain, with the river in full flood. What a sight. As fast as the rain came, it was gone [...]
