From Unawatuna we took the local bus to Weligama. We had to walk about a kilometer to a place we saw online, luckily after 500m we found a roadside buffet restaurant with the cheapeast rice and curry yet. After the brunch break we walked to the guest house we saw online. At the gate we almost turned around as the place looks like a rubble dump. A very friendly young lady, however, came out and showed us the perfectly adequate room for cheaper than any of the previous places we stayed.
Later we walked to the local beach, but were again dissappointed by the rough waves and dirty looking beach. In the evening we did some work. The next day we went to the main long Weligama beach, but without swimming clothes much to our regret. People were learning to surf everywhere and the ocean were much calmer. Later we walked through the market area of town and finally found the type of local establishment we were looking for. A big plate of food that we could share for only 130 rupees (R10) and also delicious sweet ceylon milk tea for only R4.50.
