The shape of it

Mostly by train, some of it on foot, and a fair bit by boat.

The route runs almost entirely overland. A flight in and a flight home, one hop from Dubrovnik down to Sicily, and everything between those joined up by rail, road, ferry and boot.

The high point in both senses is the last week of August: four days crossing the Julian Alps hut to hut, over a 2,358 m pass in the middle of Triglav National Park, with no phone signal and no way off except forward.

Keeping in touch

Signal permitting, we're reachable most days. The one real exception is the four days in the mountains from 19 August, where there's no phone signal at all.

Time difference

None at all. Europe stays on UTC+2 until late October, so it's the same clock as home the whole way.

Subject to change

Roughly the first half is booked. The Italian half is still filling in, so the later days may shift.
