We got up ‘early’ and caught a bus to Matara central busstation. We waited an hour for the bus to Ella to depart, but luckily it was a direct bus so we didn’t have to change again. The bus was blaring loud Sri Lankan music (videos of live shows) the whole time with the base so loud and treble low that when the artists speaks between songs you can’t hear any words, but if the drummer just lifts up is stick the whole bus vibrates.
To our surprise Ella had even more tourists than the beach towns. Still we managed find somewhat affordable food and accommodation. We went to the famous nine arches bridge and visited theĀ Uva Halpewatte Tea Factory, which was very interesting but sadly no photos are allowed.
From Ella we then took what is often described as the most scenic railway in the world to Nuwara Eliya. You can judge for yourself from the photos.
