Day 220: Inhassoro to Tofo

Distance: 412km (Cumulative: 24 890km)
Moving time: 6:40
Average speed: 62km/h
Road surface: 97% Tar

Accommodation: Camping
Turtle Cove - R65 p.p

Ok for overnight stop away from backpackers places closer to beach

Initially, we wanted to also stay in Vilanculos, but since we spent four nights in Inhassoro we decided to head directly for Tofo.

We left Goody Villas at 09:40. The road to Vilanculos was still pretty bad. We went to check out Vilanculos for future reference and did some shopping. We also had lunch at the Frutos do Mar restaurant which had a nice view. We opted for the calamari as we haven’t really had that before in Mozambique, but it wasn’t that rewarding.

Before heading off to Inhambane we drove through some of Vilanculos’s thick sandy roads.

From Vilanculos the road was much better and we could average 80km/h all the way to Maxixe.

We got to Tofo at 17:00 so it was starting to get dark again. We first checked out Fatima’s backpackers and the place next door, but Caro wasn’t impressed with all the surfer types hanging around so we went to Turtle Cove. There we were the only campers. The bathroom facilities were rather derelict, but we had a nice meal in the restaurant before going to bed.
